Mukesh Ambani the chairman of Reliance industries

Dhirubhai Ambani has not only been a great leader but also an inspirational story for several youngsters hailing from small towns to make it big in their respective fields. the giant Reliance Empire was taken ahead by his two sons, Mukesh & Anil Ambani. Though both are extremely different in their approach, Reliance has spread its wings all over the world because of them.

Mukesh Ambani (born on 19 April 1957) is an Indian business magnate and the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, the largest private sector enterprise in India, and one of the largest private sector group in the world. His personal stake in Reliance Industries is 48%. Mukesh Ambani attended the Hill Grange High School on Peddar Road, Mumbai, along with his brother Anil Ambani and where Anand Jain, his close associate, was his classmate. He completed his graduation with a bachelor`s degree in chemical engineering from the UDCT, now Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. He stood sixth in the University exams. Mukesh later joined in Stanford University for MBA but completed only one year of the two year program and dropped out in the year 1980. Indira Gandhi administration threw open the doors of PFY (polyester filament yarn) manufacturing to the private sector in early 1980. Dhirubhai Ambani had applied for a license to set up PFY manufacturing plant, at that time there is a stiff competition from Tatas, Birlas and others, Dhirubhai was awarded the license. To help him build the PFY plant, Dhirubhai pulled Mukesh out of Stanford where he was studying for his MBA. Mukesh Ambani, then dropped out to help his father and initiated. Mukesh Ambani has not only taken over the reins and responsibilities of Reliance Industries Limited but has also been maintaining perfect quality in making the company a global entity.

His initiative to build India’s largest & strongest communication network was known as Reliance Infocomm Limited (now Reliance Communications Limited). His business interests expanded to Petrochemicals, Petroleum Refining and Marketing, Textiles, Retail and SEZs. And his latest venture in the organized retail sector with Reliance Retail by opening hundreds of stores across several states to serve diverse consumer needs and operate under various names such as Reliance Fresh, Reliance Mart, Reliance Footwear, Reliance Trends and Reliance Digital.

While Dhirubhai Ambani has been referred to as the most enterprising Indian entrepreneur, Mukesh Ambani has been ranked as one of the world’s most respected business leaders and conferred various awards for his leadership skills. Many natives of India would describe Mukesh as the man who allowed their country to develop as a nation and become increasingly competitive on a global scale. It is because of this that he was awarded the award of Economic Times Business Leader of the Year in 2006, as well as coming up top in a Business Man of the Year competition held in 2007 by India's NDTV & CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Awards 2007. Mukesh Ambani too has been bestowed by a Dean’s medal by the University of Pennsylvania for his visionary leadership in the application of engineering and technological advancements for the betterment of mankind. Mukesh Ambani ranked fifth amongst the top performing CEOs in the world according to the Harvard Business review conducted for January-February 2010.In 2010, Mukesh Ambani was given a 'Degree of Doctor of Science Honoris Causa' by M.S University, Baroda, Gujarat. In 2012, Forbes named Mukesh Ambani the richest sports owner in the world.
